Summer in Casper Wyoming!
Summertime, and the living’s easy. That’s how the saying goes, right? Well, here we are, summertime here in Wyoming, and my gosh, we are all so excited. It has seemed like such a long, long winter, one that ran far into spring. We in Wyoming are so ready for the sunshine and all that comes with Wyoming summers, am I right? Hi, I’m Alisha Collins with RE/MAX The Group and the Alisha Collins Real Estate Team.

I love summer. Don’t you? I thought we should talk a little bit about why summertime is one of the best times in our great state. In case you just moved here, or perhaps you’re thinking of relocating to Wyoming, here are some things that you should know.

Number one, the sheer beauty of Wyoming in the summertime is breathtaking. The grass is green. The flowers are blooming. The trees are full, and the mountains are so pretty. Driving down Poplar Street can yield some of the most beautiful scenery even from town. It is one of my favorite sights of the year. Casper Mountain, green, green, green. The rolling hills below it, green, green, green. Something you may not know, as maybe we don’t talk about it a lot, worried we might jinx it maybe, the wind. Somehow in the summertime it seems to almost disappear. Not today, obviously. If not completely, then almost completely. I mean, if we are being honest, the wind still does show her face now and again, but it’s nothing like the winter wind when she wants to be seen pretty much every day. The lack of wind and the plethora of sunshine yield perfect opportunities for outdoor barbecues and yard games.

There are baseball and softball for the youth, and Casper even has its own minor league team, the Horseheads. What’s more American than cheering at a baseball game> Speaking of ball, our town has a ton of recreational opportunities for coed, men’s and women’s softball, all levels, super fun. Are you an active person? Did you know that Casper has almost endless opportunities for you in the summer? So many. We have Fat Fish Racing, which means over the summer for mountain bike enthusiasts, you’ll find them on Facebook under Fat Fish Racing. They have multiple races, ranging from Casper Mountain to some out-of-town gravel races at all skill levels, even youth.

Maybe you’re a runner. Casper Ultra and Trail Running Society, also found on Facebook, is a great place for you. This group will let you know about all the upcoming races in our area. They even meet up as a group to train over the summer. Isn’t that cool? There are a ton of 5K, 10K and family fun runs in the area that are used to fundraise for local families and organizations that need help from the community. Doing what you love while supporting those in need, what a great combination.

Maybe you’re a fisherman. Again, Wyoming is the right place to be. I know I’ve talked about it before, but I need to mention it again. The North Platte River is one of the most sought-after locations for trout fishing. There are many fishing guide businesses here in town that welcome people from around the country and guide them along our beautiful, winding river. Did you know that they also love to take out the locals? And we can’t talk about fishing without mentioning the fabulous lakes we have nearby. Alcova, Pathfinder, Glendo Reservoir are wonderful places to fish and recreate. Of course, we also have closer options if you have just a couple of hours, such as the duck ponds located just off Bryan Stock Trail, Goldeneye Reservoir just out of town, and Yesness Pond and Park, located in Casper just off Outer Drive. These are all popular spots for a quick dip of your pole.

Remember last winter, when I told you about ample opportunities on Casper Mountain to get out and play in the snow? Guess what? The summer provides many options to enjoy the mountain as well. The same trails that are used for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are used for hiking and running. We have the wonderful Braille Trail on top of the mountain. The location of the Lee McCune Braille Trail was chosen because of the wide variety of plant life found there. It is full of different stations, each of them containing information about the natural surroundings in both English print and Braille. Visitors can hear a collection of different sounds along the path, such as birds or babbling brook. They can touch rough tree bark, smell pine and meadow grass and have other sensory experiences as they follow the trail through the forest and over the bridge. It’s a fantastic opportunity for exploring for those who can see and those who are visually impaired. How cool is that? The Bridle Trail is also a favorite amongst the locals. The trailhead begins at Rotary Park, going both east and west and offering spectacular views of Garden Creek Falls, they’re so pretty, the city of Casper, and the rolling prairie seated just below and the surrounding countryside. The overall loop is about five miles long and rises over 1,200 feet with a natural tunnel-like experience about midway known as Split Rock. The average hiker can complete the outermost loop in about three hours, but it is not for the faint of heart. If you’re pressed for time and energy, you can opt for the shorter loop on the west side of the park. There are so many beautiful things to see along this special trail.

Summertime also brings about many festivals and concerts. David Street Station in downtown Casper is a great place to enjoy such things. There are morning yoga sessions on the lawn, concerts on the stage, open air farmers’ markets, a splash pad and so much more. It’s a great place to plug in to the community and share the amazing summer evenings with people local to our area. They even have an outdoor movie cinema at David Street Station throughout the summer months. And how fun is that? An outdoor movie.

I literally could go on and on for days about the summer here in this great state, After all, I’ve lived here for almost all of my life, all but five years. I am proud to say this is where I am from, and I am beyond excited to enjoy the next months of summer. As always, Casper area real estate is what I know best, but I’m excited to learn all I can about my local area, and that includes what you’re up to this summer.
