Casper and Wyoming are Famous for What?
What is Casper Famous For

Casper, Wyoming: What are we known for? Casper, home of the friendly ghost? No. Is it where the mattresses are made? No again. What is Casper, Wyoming, famous for? Hi, I’m Alisha Collins with RE/MAX The Group and the Alisha Collins Real Estate Team.

While I would like to say it’s famous because I live here, I’m pretty sure that isn’t the answer. The first place to look? Let’s search the search engines.
The top response is Casper is an oil city. And living here, I can tell you that is true. The history of our town is rooted in natural resources and the town has historically matched that growth and slowdown of the energy sector. While the strong route of oil still flows through our town, the state and city have been working towards economic diversification, hoping to build upon the strength of the energy sector.

One of the reasons of growth is tourism. Casper is an amazing place to visit and to live. You should come check it out. Wyoming is known for its wide-open spaces, such as mountain lands, ranches, and range land. You know the song, “Home, home on the range,” and Casper is no exception. Whether you’re looking for ranch and/or considering information about historical ranches, here’s a bit of Wyoming trivia that may surprise you. This is from 2017; we’re looking for the new totals. There are currently an estimated 1,270,000 cattle in the state of Wyoming. That is huge compared to the human population, estimated at 582,658 people, which is declining. That’s right, we have almost 2.2 cattle per person in the state of Wyoming. That’s more than twice as many cows as we have as people.

Of course, you can’t think of Wyoming without thinking of the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park. While Casper may not have the Tetons, we do have Casper Mountain and some amazing opportunities for those looking to visit. With the mountain in our backyard and the Platte River in our front yard, Casper is an outdoor adventure just waiting to happen year-round.

For those who love fly-fishing, Casper’s section of the North Platte River is one of top destinations, so we are famous for fly-fishing. Casper is a common stop on the way to Yellowstone National Park or Jackson Hole, but historically Casper was the common stop on some of the most famous paths of the Mormon Trail and the Oregon Trail. If you are a history buff, Casper is definitely a famous stop for those interested in the paths to migration to the West. Full of history, Casper has the National Historic Trail Center and Fort Caspar Museum. To further explain why this area is famous for our history here, a couple of years back, Casper was made famous as one of the best locations in the entire world to view the amazing total solar eclipse of 2017. The sight brought more than one million visitors to Wyoming from across the country and around the world.

While this was a singular event, I am sure the visitors realized that Casper should be famous for more than just the eclipse. Once here, I’m sure they realized that Casper should be famous for the amazing hospitality of our people. Did you know Casper is the second-largest city in Wyoming and Natrona County is the second-largest County in Wyoming? You may be even more surprised to learn we even have an international airport. It might be small, but it is amazing.

So, we’ve covered a few different ways of being famous if you’re a city. Some may go by what the internet says or they may go by historical significance or popular destination. How about being newsworthy? If you count newsworthiness as fame, we are often newsworthy for our weather, like the year we had over 90-degree temperatures for Labor Day weekend and five to 10 inches of snow with temperatures in the low-30s by Tuesday. A drastic swing in temperature of 60 or 70 degrees is a touch extreme, even for Casper. We do often say, “If you don’t like the weather here, “wait a minute.” But seriously, it was an interesting couple of days, to say the least. Casper may not be as famous as some other cities, but it is fabulous. I hope you have learned that Casper is a pretty great place to get to know. Which way do you know Casper?
