Did you know that Petunias has a new name? Hi, I’m Alisha Collins

And I’m Whitney Asay

And she is the owner of Funky Junk District, formerly known as Petunias.
So why did you change and what was kind of the process of that?

When we first started, the name came to be from Petunias which is a jewelry line that I had created based on a nickname of my daughters. After we had kind of got settled into the business I knew I really wanted to host this event called Funky Junk that had been brewing and so after it kind of became its own entity and was really growing and changing, we kind of just wanted to join forces and mesh them together. So we’ve done that in the last year during quarantine had a lot of time to think and a lot of time to put some new things together. So Funky Junk District is really here to help support other local businesses and vendors, small business creators, and also place hopefully we can have people come and connect to create and meditate.

Awesome, so for people that don’t know about the Funky Junk Event, tell me about that.

So twice a year normally, and then we’ve added a holiday event this year. So the third Saturday of May and September, we host a street fair down here at the shop. We have 50 vendors normally, live music, beer garden, food trucks and really support a lot of great people that come in and so that’s the third Saturday of May and September. And then last year we added the holiday event. So it’s off location at the hall on Hash. So a great new venue in town. And we’ll do that the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Fun, so tell us a little bit about what you have in the store. And let’s talk about how awesome these chairs are.

Thanks I do love these chairs. They’re great.

They’re not for sale I already asked.

Sorry, goodwill finds repainted to keep here. So what we have in the store, we do a lot of unique gifts. Field’s Creek 104 was one of my major inspiration stores was a former art teacher and that was always my go-to gift store. And so that’s what we’ve tried to create here. We have one of the kinds of jewelry, home decor. We have clothing workshops and classes to make your own jewelry. My friend Carol Leach was Simply Rustic Designs as also in here. So she does a lot of the wood signs, final lettering, sheets stickers. She’s got a lot of really fun unique items as well. So she can personalize items also.

Can you talk about your new thing back there? that you’re getting

Oh yes sorry. We just decided, well all year we’ve been kind of playing around with the idea of getting a Glowforge I’m really excited. It should be here in the next couple of weeks. So there’ll be a new way for us to create it does a lot. It’s a laser cutter. So it’ll engrave, emboss, cut wood, engrave metal. There’s just gonna be a lot of new jewelry designs that come out and hopefully thing that then people can also kind of and can personalize gifts that way as well.

That sounds super fun

Yeah, excited.

I love how you want small businesses to kind of come into their own and that we support each other. We’d love for you to participate and just kind of share the news.

Awesome, thanks so much.
[Both] Bye.
