šŸ¦¬Four Amazing Cities, One Wyoming Community. Casper, Bar Nunn, Mills and Evansville

We often talk about the Casper area, but what exactly does that mean? Casper is often viewed as a small town with a modest population. However, there are three small towns on the outskirts of Casper within the Casper area that add to the overall population and charm of our community. Mills, Bar Nunn and Evansville. These tempered towns along with Casper have a vast amount to provide from their affordable housing prices, population, businesses, and rich history. Hi, Iā€™m Alisha Collins with the Alisha Collins Real Estate Team, and Iā€™ve lived in the Casper area for over 22 years. I am going to share why the Casper area could be a fit for you and your family.

To begin with, Casper was founded in 1889 where it was initially a booming railroad destination and an important shipping point for cattle and wolf. Soon after, residential and business sites were established at the corner of center and second. By the 20th century, Casper rapidly grew becoming a popular destination for workers and their families due to the flourishing oil and refining business opportunities. Between 1910 and 1920, Casperā€™s population quadrupled from 2,600 to 11,000 to 500 people. Much of downtown Casper still remains today, including the Mansion District, south of downtown, Casper branch of Wyoming State Hospital, now known as Wyoming Medical Center and even the Natrona County Library. The oldest home that I have seen in Casper was built in 1906. While Casper still remains rich in its historical aspect, there are of course many new construction areas and homes offering a multitude of options for different preferences. As of today, Casperā€™s population is up to about 57,500 people making it the second largest town in Wyoming. There are a wide array of rural and residential properties available. One of the main appeals to Casper is the price of houses. The average price for a house in Casper is 330,000, and the median is about 275,000. Casper spans 27.24 square miles and provides a great amount of variance in what all it has to offer. If youā€™re looking to shop, grab a bite to eat or enjoy a day out with your family, Casper is home to many businesses, large and small that will guarantee you an enjoyable time. Casper is home to the Eastridge Mall with over 30 stores, including DICKā€™S Sporting Goods, Target, Ross, and Best Buy just to name a few. I love to support our local businesses and the best place to find locally owned businesses is downtown Casper. Casperā€™s downtown area has a wide variety of locally owned small businesses. The downtown area is one of the most diverse places to shop where you can find anything from outdoor apparel, western clothing, jewelry, and even artwork. A few of my favorite stores are Cadillac Cowgirl, Lou Taubertā€™s, Floral Rhino, and Windy City Books. While downtown, be sure to search out Eggingtonā€™s or C85, two of our communityā€™s favorite locally owned restaurants. Enjoy a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner. If youā€™re in search of some activities to enjoy, then go to a new movie at one of the two Casper movie theaters. Experience a day ice skating at the Casper Ice Arena. Take your kids to a fun day at the Casper Aquatics Center, or even enjoy a day of golf at one of our two public golf courses, the municipal golf course, or Three Crowns Golf course.

Now, letā€™s talk about Evansville. Evansville was established in 1923 by a successful rancher in the area. According to the United States Census Bureau, Evansvilleā€™s population has grown to 2,727 people, but according to the Evansville sign, its 2,746 people. This charming community is considered a municipality offering a police department, a fire department, community center, as well as an elementary school. Evansville is located directly to the northeast of Casper and offers a magnitude of rural land with a total size of 3.46 square miles. I live in Evansville where I have raised my six horses while also being able to enjoy the access and convenience of being closer to a larger city. The median price of a home in Evansville is 297,500, and the average price is 322,200. There is a great mix between older and newer homes. 1912 is the oldest home I have ever seen in Evansville, and I actually listed this home the last time it was sold. Evansville allows residents to enjoy a suburban, rural mixed feel and enjoy the best of both worlds. If you ever find yourself in Evansville, make sure you make a stop at the local trampoline park, Jump Craze. If you have kiddos in this place, itā€™s sure to keep them occupied for hours. Evansville also offers a few of our top pick restaurants, Chiliā€™s Bar and Grill, Texas Roadhouse. One of my favorite outdoor activities in Evansville is visiting Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park. At this serene state park, you can enjoy a picnic, hike, swim, kayak, and even fishing. If this isnā€™t enough to satisfy you, then Casper is only about a 10 minute drive from Evansville. Evansville also has a variety of other businesses like Smithā€™s RV, Sunnyā€™s RV, Taylor Sports Bar, and a variety of other ones, so make sure you check ā€™em out.

Directly across Casper is the peaceful small town of Mills. Mills was established in 1921 and was considered a boom town springing up following the construction of the Midwest Refining Company. This small gem is located up across the North Platte River, northwest of Casper and is 2.99 square miles. After a refinery construction was complete and The Depression began, Mills nearly ceased to exist, but today it has become a historic treasure to our community. With a population of 4,221 people, Mills is a thriving small town. Mills is considered a municipality. The town of Mills includes a police department, as well as a fire department ensuring its community members are well taken care of. Mills is also home to a new charter school, Wyoming Classical Academy. This school is open for students K through six and eventually plans to offer K through 12. The best part of this new charter school is its free tuition. Furthermore, Mills offers a wide array of businesses you must try. The Beacon Club, we all know Sneak Into the Beacon, located in Mills is known as the best place to stop in for a drink or a plate full of delicious food. They also frequently offer special events like live music and even country dance lessons. A few other businesses in Mills to stop by are the Wagon Wheel rollerskating rink under new ownership, Buckin Brew, a great drivethrough coffee place, who has recently gone TikTok famous and is known for making their drinks on TikTok and also Soda Springs. Another newer business that has great soda with a twist and unique names. One of my very favorite businesses in Mills is Mossā€™s Boot and Tack. You can get awesome jewelry. Of course, they have tons of options for boots and other shoes and tack for your horses. The North Platte River runs through the outskirts of town allowing you the opportunity to enjoy a float on the river if itā€™s something youā€™re interested in. If you wanna enjoy the amenities of a larger town, then youā€™re in luck. Casper is only about a 10 minute drive from Mills. More than the shops and recreational activities, Mills offers affordable housing prices with an average price of 330,000 and a median price of 275,000.

In addition to Mills and Evansville is Bar Nunn. A town of Bar Nunn was originally the site of the Wardwell Field, Natrona Countyā€™s first airport. In 1952, the United States Army Air Corps base bought some land off of Highway 2026 and relocated to what we now know as Casper Natrona County International Airport. However, the runways of the former airport are now the streets we drive on today in Bar Nunn. When visiting Bar Nunn, the Hangar Bar and Grill serves as an additional reminiscent piece of the townā€™s airfield days. A longtime local favorite and the perfect place to grab a delicious bite to eat or hold an event. Bar Nunn is the perfect location for you if youā€™re looking for a newer home, like what is behind me in your price range. Bar Nunn consists of 2.1 square miles and it has a population of 2,946 people. The average price of a home in Bar Nunn is $313,416, and the median is 310,740. If youā€™re looking for an affordable area with newer housing, then Bar Nunn is the place for you. While Bar Nunn is not considered a municipality, they still have their own volunteer fire department as well as their own elementary school. Bar Nunn is about a 10 minute drive to Casper, allowing you to easily enjoy Casperā€™s amenities as well.
