Over the years, the CNFR has witnessed countless unforgettable moments, record breaking performances, and legendary athletes etching their names into college rodeo history.
In 1991, Mary Walker, a student athlete from Texas, set a new CNFR record in barrel racing, finishing with an astonishing time of 13.89 seconds. Her breathtaking run became the talk of the rodeo world, inspiring a new generation of the aspiring cowgirls.
Who could forget the electrifying bull riding performance by Lane Frost in 1984? His eight second ride on the legendary bull, Red Rock, not only earned him a championship title, but also solidified his place as a rodeo icon.
The CNFR has also witnessed incredible teamwork in team roping. In 2010, the duo of Colby Lovell and Kory Koontz set a new CNFR record with an astonishing time of 4.6 seconds, showcasing precision and synchronization like never before.

Have you ever been to the rodeo? Having grown up in Wyoming, I forget that rodeo might not be something that everyone experiences. From bareback riding to barrel racing, bull riding to saddle broncs, there is just something about the sight, sounds, and even the smells, yes, I’m serious, of the rodeo. Being here now feels like home. It evokes feelings of childhood, from first visions of seeing cowboys and cowgirls in person to my first ride on a horse and feeling the leather, as I slipped into my first pair of boots, long time ago. Rodeo is more than just a display of skill.
It is a celebration of a way of life, one that pays homage to the pioneers, who tamed the land and carved a path through the wildness. It is a testament to the grit and determination that defines the human spirit. In the rodeo arena, cowboys and cowgirls become ambassadors of a culture, passing down traditions and keeping the flame of the Wild West alive. The rodeo encompasses so much of what the Wild West was about, hard work, dedication, and developing a love and passion for what we do.
