Words From A Casper Wyoming Native

Hello, if you have been watching my videos, and you definitely should be watching my videos, you may have noticed that I think living in Wyoming is pretty great, and I’m not alone. Many people who live here, whether they’re originally from here or transplants, feel the same way. What is it about Wyoming, and specifically Casper, that is so great? Hi, I’m Alisha Collins with RE/MAX The Group and the Alisha Collins Real Estate Team and I would love to help you find the home of your dreams if you live in Casper or if you’re coming to Casper. I have the scoop on what the born in Casper, original Casperites, Casper natives, what should we call them, native Casperites’ top five, best things about Casper. This is actually a friend of mine who has lived here her entire life, so I’m going to tell you her favorite five things.

Number five, the people. There are so many things to love about the people that live in Casper. When you’re a native, chances are there really aren’t very many strangers, except maybe a few transplants. All you have to do is to have a conversation with a person and you will realize that you probably have friends or even family in common. It may just be a friend of a friend of a friend, but it does really feel like everyone knows everyone else. The connections you discover really make it feel like one big family. The community in Casper has an abundance of generosity and kindness. Our community has a lotta support for various nonprofit organizations that are here to help those in need. The amount of money and time that is donated in our little community is pretty amazing. In addition to the generosity, the people that live here are some of the most kind, compassionate, and friendly people in the world. Neighbors are almost always willing to lend a hand or a tool or a cup of sugar. If your car breaks down on the side of the road, it isn’t uncommon for more than one car to stop and offer help.

Number four, the people, or rather the lack of people. One of the best things about living in Casper is the low population. Living in Casper means you get the amenities of a large community without actually having to live in one. Restaurants, events, shopping, we have a variety of it all, but we don’t have to wait in long lines or deal with big city crowds. Our smallish population provides a ton of other benefits, such as less traffic congestion. Sure, we all complain if we get delayed a bit, but it is nothing compared to larger cities, both in time and frequency. Our delays are rare occurrences, not daily frustrations. Fewer people also equal less air pollution, which I think everyone can agree is a good thing. The lower population also means less light pollution, which is the whole reason behind the next item on the list.

Number three, you can see the stars. One of the best things about living in Casper is the opportunity to see the night sky. Just step out of your house at night and you’ll most likely see so many stars, even in town. You can look up and easily see major constellations and even identify specific stars without a telescope, unless there’s a heavy cloud cover, of course. In larger cities, you may have to drive miles out of town to see constellations or astronomical events. Not here. Most can be seen from your own backyard. Now, if you do have a few minutes to drive a little ways out of town, then you will truly have an amazing sight to behold. 10 minutes in any direction out of town and you’re likely to have an unobstructed view of the Milky Way in all its glory.

That brings to us number two, outdoor activities. Casper and the surrounding areas offer all the nature and outdoor activities you could possibly want. While other places have nature to enjoy, there really is no place like the wilderness of Wyoming. Nature really is right outside your back door. Between the roaming herds of antelope, flocks of turkeys that stroll through downtown and cause some traffic jams, and the deer that are fun to watch but just can’t leave the gardens and flowers alone, the chances are very good that the wild parts of Wyoming are everywhere you look. In addition to wildlife watching, of course we also have amazing hunting opportunities and blue ribbon fishing destinations. Summer brings camping, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, off-roading, golf, and much more. Winter offers snowboarding, both Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, sledding, and even ice fishing, just to name a few options. Even with all of this, it’s really tough to separate number two and number one in my friend’s best native things about living in Casper.

Number one, location, location, location. How many towns are located within an hour of three reservoirs and are just 15 minutes from the mountains? Casper has all of that plus a beautiful river running right through town and access to plains and rolling prairies as well. The unique location of Casper means that you can enjoy everything from boating to skiing all within less than an hour from town. There are so many different things to do, all due to the unique location of Casper. Not only that, but our little city is only a four-hour drive away from either Billings, Montana or Denver, Colorado. So if a weekend in a much bigger city is what you’re looking for, it’s a relatively short drive away. Believe it or not, we even have an international airport here to take you anywhere in the world you may wish to go. Casper has location, location, location, and this makes it very easy to visit the big cities without having to live in one. To sum it up, Casper has great people, myself included and my native friend, lots of elbow room, amazing views of the Milky Way, so many outdoor activities it’s hard to name them all, close proximity to all sorts of outdoor activities, and just close enough to get the big city if you need your fill of it.

Sounds like Casper’s a great place to live.
