Wyomings Superpower! What’s our best? Many different things Wyoming could be claimed as our superpower… Magnificent beauty of our state with landscaping and wildlife. An abundance of outdoor activities-hunting, fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, snowmobiling, rock climbing, kayaking, river surfing and horseback riding to name just a few. Acres and acres of federal land. Wyoming has the lowest population of all 50 states. There is no state income tax in Wyoming and very low sales tax. You will build the best set of people support EVER. The people are amazing here and they will actually prove it to you!
Let’s talk superpowers. We read about them in books and see them in the movies and on TV. Children often wish for them. Honestly, I think adults do too. Are superpowers always magical? What do you think, are they real? What do you consider to be your local area’s superpower? What is Wyoming’s superpower? Have you ever thought about that? It’s kind of fun to imagine, don’t you think?
Hi, I’m Alisha Collins with RE/MAX The Group and the Alisha Collins Real Estate team. As a real estate agent, you know that I pride myself on knowing everything I can about our local area. And of course, that means knowing something about Wyoming’s superpower, or superpowers, maybe.
There are so many different things Wyoming could claim as our superpower, don’t you agree? For instance, the magnificent beauty of our state, the wide open spaces that are sometimes so beautiful that they almost leave you speechless. The majestic mountains, the flowing rivers and streams, even the crisp white snow that falls in the wintertime. What about the clean air? Just going outside and taking a big, deep breath and filling your lungs with all of that wonderfully clean air. Those are super powers, right?
The wildlife that lives here and can often be seen when you walk out your back door or drive down the road. The fishing, people come from everywhere for that. The hunting, yep, people travel here for that, too. The exploring, how about the endless outdoor recreation opportunities? Hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, snow mobiling, rock climbing, kayaking, river surfing, and horseback riding, just to name a few.
Wyoming is so beautiful. Speaking of beautiful and wide open spaces, the amount of public land in Wyoming is crazy. Two types of federal public land, BLM, Bureau of Land Management, and USFS, United States Forest Service, cover a huge part of our state. In Wyoming, BLM has 27,860 square miles and USFS has 14,460 square miles. In addition, state lands total approximately 5,500 square miles and land administered by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department total approximately 800 square miles. That’s a lot of wide open space. See? Another superpower.
We could talk about the low population of our state as a superpower too, couldn’t we? After all, the lack of crowds and low traffic are two of the things that make enjoying Wyoming that much more, right? Being able to find yourself some space and chance to get alone time with nature, or even drive to the local grocery store in just a matter of minutes. It’s super to be able to eat at your favorite restaurant almost anytime without a reservation or to find a great place on a sandy beach at the very last minute. There is rarely stop and go traffic on the interstate here and most of what we do experience takes only a few moments of inconvenience and is usually from construction, not from clogged-up roads caused by tons of people. We have classroom sizes that are kept smaller, sporting and music events that are more intimate possibly than those in bigger states. The lower population numbers here are for sure one of our superpowers.
How about the abundance of natural resources within our state? Is that a superpower? For sure, natural gas, wind, water, and grasslands are just some of the natural resources you will find here. And they are in abundance, especially the wind. We can’t forget about Wyoming’s superpower that is agriculture, the ranches and farms that produce needed food for our area and the nation. I mean, we even have the Wyoming Sugar Company that has been supplying sugar beets from the Southern Bighorn Basin in Fremont County for over 100 years. Did you know that?
Another super thing to mention is the fact that Wyoming has no state income tax. Sales tax are among the lowest in the nation. All of these things are super, no doubt. Do you want to know what I think Wyoming’s main superpower is?
Without a doubt, Wyoming’s biggest superpower is the people who live here. Our communities are so amazing and rare. You will struggle to find people in other areas that match the incredible population of this state. Just head on down to a local fundraiser and watch the generosity of a community pour in for those in need. The people who have plenty are more than willing to give to those who don’t. When a child is sick or a community member is in need, it usually takes just a couple of calls before there is a crowd of people willing to lend a hand. Generosity describes most everyone in our state. You can count on your neighbors most of the time, not just for help, but for friendship. And by neighbors, of course, I mean anyone who lives here. That’s pretty much how it works in Wyoming. A trip to the grocery store usually consists of smiles and conversations with strangers and lots of people you know. It wouldn’t be unusual to make a lifelong friend in the cheese aisle or find a new business connection while grabbing a gallon of milk. The staff at your favorite restaurants or stores will remember you and might be on a first-name basis with the local postal worker delivering your mail. The people of Wyoming are one of the top reasons why I love living here. I love that the people of our state have a high energy of integrity and cowboy values. We aren’t afraid of hard work or getting our hands dirty. We understand how kindness can change the world one person at a time. We wave to one another on the country roads and smile at people as we walk by. We love to cheer on our hometown heroes, in local sports and activities. We collectively clap our hands at knowing that a kid from our community played in the Super Bowl or fought valiantly in the war overseas. Our people are what make Wyoming the very best of the best. People are Wyoming’s biggest superpower. Community, neighborly support, and kindness. That describes the superpower best. I could literally go on forever about the people in this state. After all, I talk to so many people every day in my line of work. I am proud of people that live here. I am proud to say this is where I’m from. I am beyond proud to proclaim the people of this state as the biggest superpower.
