You need to know ALL this before you move to Casper, Wyoming. So many reasons to move to Wyoming! One of the items most are nervous about is the WYOMING WIND and maybe a little bit about the Wyoming winters! Lots of shopping; from big box stores like Walmart, Target, Kohl, Ulta, etc; to the most amazing small businesses! And once you move to Casper Wyoming there are so many things to do! So much to see in Wyoming that you will always have something to do! From Devils tower, to Yellowstone National Park to fishing the North Platte River, Wyoming really does have something for everyone!
Are you thinking about making a big move? Maybe just maybe you’re thinking about relocating to the wonderful city of Casper, my hometown and in my opinion, one of the greatest cities on earth. Hi, I’m Alisha Collins with the Alisha Collins Real Estate team and I think we should talk about what you should know before moving to Casper. Are you ready? Let’s go.
First of all, we have got to talk about the weather. For some it can be a make or break kind of thing. For others, they just go with the flow but Casper’s weather is surely worth mentioning and should be, I think first on the list of what you should know before you move here. Our weather here in Casper is vast and varies. During certain times of the year it can feel like you’re experiencing all four seasons in one day. Truthfully, Wyoming winters can be difficult and of course there’s snow and cold but what makes Wyoming truly a test for the residents of Casper is the wind. It blows. See what I did there, but man, oh man the springtime and the summertime and they make it worthwhile. So we can tolerate experiencing even the teeniest bit of the winter blues. We’re talking about green grass, blooming flowers and the widest open spaces imaginable. I’ve mentioned all of the wonderful things about spring and summertime in a previous video that I’ll link above.
The next thing you should know about moving to Casper is that it’s a small city with a big town feel. It’s not uncommon to see someone you know when you head to the grocery store or even when you take a walk down by the river. Unlike a lot of other small towns, Casper has many amenities that are similar to what you would find in a bigger city. We have the shopping from two Walmart stores and Sam’s Club plus several other grocery store options to big department stores like Kohl’s and Marshalls. But we also have many local shops that offer the hometown flare that you might not see in those bigger stores. And who doesn’t love to shop local? I know I do. In fact, many people from the smaller surrounding communities drive to Casper for a lot of their shopping needs. We pretty much have everything you might need within our city limits. Did you know that Casper has right around 193 restaurants? I know it’s hard to believe.
Our next topic is something that draws in a lot of people to our great state and city. More money in your pocket. Did you know that Wyoming has no personal or corporate state income tax? We don’t. Wyoming has been touted as the most tax friendly state in the country, and guess what else? We have a super low sales tax. It is only 4%. In Casper that combined state and local sales tax is just 5%. Even better, Wyoming has the ninth lowest real estate property taxes in the country, which you know excites someone like me since real estate is my jam. With all of those things considered it seems Casper residents might take home a little bit of money at the end of the day.
Something worth mentioning about moving to Casper is the Natrona County School District. We have school of choice enrollment here which means with around 26 schools to choose from you can have your pick no matter where you live. That’s kind of exciting. Since we have options including Spanish and Chinese language immersion schools, multiple middle schools and even three great choices for high school. There are several private and parochial schools options as well. You are sure to find the school that works best for you.
Fun fact, in 2016 Casper was named the most charitable city in the country. Even though that was just a few years ago the residents of Casper haven’t slowed down in their generosity. Every month there are multiple events that are organized to raise money for local charities, local causes and even local families. You know, I talked a few weeks ago about Davis Street Station. That was built in large part with charitable giving from the community. Wow. I cannot count the times I have said this but the things to do in Casper are endless. If you find yourself bored here, you just might not be looking in the right place.
From mountain activities here’s my outdoor video, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, hiking, camping and festivals to river activities, walking paths, world renowned fly fishing, really people come here from all over to fish the North Platte River, to activities you’ll experience at 53 local parks and over 30 playgrounds. Did I mention the indoor water park and the year round ice arena located within the recreation center? Or how about the outdoor ice skating rink during the winter months down at the David Street Station? Usually, this year it is not in service.
We have multiple local lakes within a short driving distance that are perfect for fishing, boating, camping, and playing, including Alcova Reservoir where you will find beautiful Fremont Canyon which is a favorite amongst boaters and locals. Maybe you love golf, you know, like my husband. Say if so you’re in luck there as well. Casper has four local golf courses. You know the most important thing that I think you should know before deciding to move to Casper is about its hidden superpower. I almost cry when I think about this. It’s the people. You will be hard pressed to find a community that compares to the one here in Casper. You’ve got to watch this superpower video. There is so much kindness and generosity here. I just talked about how giving the community is but it goes far beyond the financial aspects. You can always count on finding someone to help you when you need it. You can always find a smile walking down the aisle at Albertson’s or even regular pay it forwards in the coffee line. I’ve made the best friends here in my hometown and what’s even better is that many of my clients have joined my friendship club. People here are so welcoming to everyone. The community is so vast. You are sure to find a group of people just for you. From mom groups to golf clubs and outdoor groups to sewing and scrapbooking clubs. We really do have a group of people for everyone, and I love that.
We have Casper College which is a community college treasure. Not only do they offer local degrees, they also offer expanded degree tracks through the University of Wyoming and other partner schools. They even offer community-based classes for those of us that just want to learn something new like dance classes, pottery and more. How great. As always I love to tell everyone how much I love what I do. Helping people find their dream home is the best. I could go on and on for days and days about the many different things that make living here great. But we don’t have time for that. I love, love, love where I live. And remember, I want you to love where you live too. Be sure to like and subscribe to my channel for all things real estate and Wyoming and we love talking with you. Thank you, all of you that have reached out and those of you who have yet to reach out. We have time for you and we would love to help you find a home in the Casper, Wyoming area. If you are moving somewhere else in Wyoming I can help you find an agent any of those places as well.
