I’m Alisha Collins with RE/MAX The Group and the Alisha Collins Real Estate Team. And I’m going to let you in on a secret. Casper, Wyoming is a great place to live. Why, you ask? Well I live here, so it must be an amazing place. Do you need more? Well I’ve got a list to help you see why Casper, Wyoming should be on your list of places to live. Should I start with the numbers or the fun? How about the fun. One of our most abundant resources in Wyoming is space. And in that space we have mountains, rivers, reservoirs, prairies, and that’s all within one hour of Casper. Casper isn’t a pricey mountain town. It’s nestled at the base of one with easy access all year around. Casper Mountain has all you could want in a mountain. Waterfalls, hiking, mountain biking, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling and more. Mountains not your thing? That’s okay, we have the North Platte River flowing through town. Spectacular views are not the only thing that the Platte has to offer. The Platte River is famous for blue ribbon fly fishing and we have some of the best guides. Brave the white water park, kayak, or simply grab a tube and float. Excitement and relaxation can be found on the Platte. Speaking of excitement and relaxation head Southwest out of town 31 miles and you will reach Alcova Reservoir. With over 2400 square acres there is plenty of space for whatever water sport you seek. Keep going 20 more miles and you reach and even larger reservoir, Pathfinder. Pathfinder is known for its fishing but with 117 miles of shoreline, camping, playing and exploring, should be on your to-do list. Head out of Casper south on I-25 and drive for 77 miles and you will reach the third reservoir, Glendo. Glendo isn’t quite as large as Pathfinder but it’s still larger than Alcova so still plenty of water for everyone to enjoy. With three large reservoirs within an hour drive Casper offers ample adventure on the water, kayaking, boating, tubing, fishing and even surfing. Did I mention camping? Camp on the mountain, camp at the lake, camp in the campground or camp in wide open spaces with no one else around. You cannot beat the sky at night in Wyoming. Hmm, maybe it should be number one our list. Or maybe hunting should be number one. Wyoming is a sportsman’s paradise. With a variety of large and small-game animals throughout the state and many excellent hunting areas are close to Casper. The range of wildlife, amazing sight to behold. Well, I’ve covered many of the wonderful things you can do in the great outdoors. I might be missing one or two. Let’s talk about why these outdoor activities are better here than anywhere else. With a statewide total population under half a million and a citywide population around 55,000 Casper has the space to enjoy all that the great outdoors have to offer without being overcrowded by everyone else trying to enjoy them as well. All this space means clean air to breathe. There are a couple of ways to measure this. You can simply go outside and take a deep breath. Or you can look at the state of the air on the American Lung Association’s website. Casper has two notable rankings. Sixth cleanest air year around, and Casper is also tied for first with the cleanest metropolitan areas in the country for ozone. You might be thinking that 55,000 people Casper isn’t exactly your idea of a big city. And in some ways, you’re right. But Casper is the state’s second largest city and that means we have many of the big-city amenities you need without sacrificing the small-town appeal. What do I mean? Well, we have top-notch healthcare, restaurants, shopping, local events, while maintaining a safe and friendly community to live in. Live music is alive and well in Casper. You can enjoy music from punk rock to opera to anything in between. The Wyoming Symphony is based in Casper as well as the Casper Municipal Band that performs throughout the summer for free in Washington Park. Casper is home to several local breweries which boasts fun, live music weekly. And there’s lots of things to do in downtown Casper as well. Great restaurants, check, fun events, check, live music, check, overcrowding and traffic, nope. Maybe one of the best reasons to live in Casper is that it’s a great place to raise a family. Quality education, safe schools, safe communities, low cost of living and a wide variety of sporting activities to keep your kids active. From rec leagues and school sports to club sports, Casper has baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming, softball, skiing, hockey, figure skating, gymnastics, volleyball, wrestling, and a variety of martial arts. Education is important and Casper has school choice which means you can visit each school and decide which is the best fit for your child. Elementary options include dual-language immersion like Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. And it doesn’t matter what neighborhood you live in. Casper could be described as one large neighborhood. Since it takes less than 30 minutes to get from one side of town to the next. We currently have no state income tax, low property taxes, 5% local sales tax and an average home price is only 235,000. You should consider making Casper your new neighborhood. Can we all have more than one favorite reason why we live in Casper? I’m not sure I can pick, how about you decide?
